Bedroom Furniture You Can Sleep In
What furniture do you need in the bedroom? The only essential thing is the bed. There are other pieces of furniture you can skimp on—your bed is not one of them. It needs to give you the right support so you can get a good night’s sleep. Whatever else you have in the bedroom is your choice. Dresser or armoire? Or storage in the closet and free floor space for exercise.
Murphy bed
Yes, Murphy beds have gone from being an outdated vaudeville joke to a hot new idea. If you’ve never heard of a Murphy bed, it’s a bed that lifts up into a closet or a piece of furniture when it’s not in use. It’s a perfect ‘guest room’ that magically appears only when it’s needed. Some of them can even be put away made up!
Water bed
There are still people who prefer a waterbed to any other. While waterbeds are no longer considered even remotely exotic, they are extremely heavy. Some rental agreements specify that you can’t have one because of the weight. A waterbed is essentially a huge plastic bag full of water. The water needs special conditioners so it doesn’t get all green and slimy, and heaters so you don’t end up sleeping on a block of ice in the winter. It sits in a frame and when it is made up it looks like any other bed.
Air bed
Modern airbeds can be very well made and quick to set up or take down. They can also cost upwards of $200.00 and, if they have a frame and snazzy covers, lots, lots more than that. They can, however, be surprisingly comfortable. One problem with an air bed is the air inside is the same temperature as the air in the room. So, if you like to sleep with the window open in winter you are going to be very cold unless you insulate the top of the bed pretty well. The beds with the frames are intended for everyday use. The beds without frames are intended for casual use; guests, camping, etc.
Of course, an air bed is vulnerable to puncture. Make sure yours comes with a patch kit.
Day bed
A day bed is usually a twin-sized bed with a back and sides, and often bolsters, to create the illusion of an actual sofa. It can be any style you like to harmonize with your décor, and is a good choice for one-room living. Some of them can also fit a trundle bed underneath. Or you could opt for under-bed storage and cover it with an attractive bed skirt.
